Reality show watchers in Nigeria are relishing the start of another season of excitement with Big Brother Naija. Several intriguing Housg mates are participating in the Season 4 edition dubbed Forget Wahala. Like other editions, viewers are guaranteed loads of suspense and entertainment. Even the audition exercises conducted a couple of months ago in different Nigerian cities produced a sneak preview of uncommon proportions. Thousands of potential housemates turned up at the venues with long queues recorded at all centres. The uncontrollable crowd surge even led to a near-stampede and bodily injuries to several desperate wannabes. Some had to turn up at dawn while others scaled high fences to be able to get the slightest chance of making the cut.

The first season of the show first aired on DSTV Channel 37 from March 5 to June 4,2006. The voting results were verified by the auditing company of Alexander-Forbes. A second season of the series premiered on January 22,2017, and a third season debuted on January 28, 2018. The reality television show, reveals contestants who loves entertainment and come together to stay in an isolated environment for some period.

The show began in Africa as Big Brother Africa and first premiered on Sunday, May, 25, 2003. The premium placed on reality TV entertainment shows became high with the advent of Big Brother Africa 2003. The brand like wide fire quickly spread with the replication of the show in various continents around the world, including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Angola, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, Brazil, UK, USA, Canada, Russia.

Organizers went on to pick South Africa as the host country of the house in which contestants would live in. Big brother Africa ran nine seasons before being put on hold for unknown reasons. According to a statement from its producers Mnet, the show was under re¬evaluation for a strategic direction. Big Brother Nigeria at this point, took centre stage. Organizers of Big Brother, which came back after 10 years hiatus, have said that it will be done in South Africa. This led to the organizers receiving a lot of backlash for the house being situated in South Africa despite having all Nigerian housemates.

The show’s organizers in their defense stated that the need to put out quality content whilst meeting timelines, deadlines is behind the decision to transmit Big Brother Nigeria to Nigerians from South Africa. During the running of the show, viewers are allowed to vote for their favorite contestant to remain in the house; although the show seems to be interesting to a large audience, it is heavily criticized by a number of people, for they believe that it is morally bankrupt and not compactable with our African values but it still finds a place in minds of people across the world because they find it highly entertaining.

Big Brother Najja successfully kept a lot of Nigerians glued to their TV screens as people voted their favorite housemate. Despite the show being over, the former contestants have found ways to keep their fans entertained as most of the housemates have made success out of the reality show and have become world brand.

Ebuka Obi Uchendu
Ebuka Obi Uchendu, one of the most popular and successful house mate in the BBN show for several weeks into the show and widely believed to emerge winner was the seventh house mate to be evicted. Ebuka Obi Uchendu is known for hosting the reality show Big Brother Naija, the long running Rubbin minds talk show on channels TV as well as co-hosting the spot and men’s corner on Ebonylife television.

Uti Nwachukwu
Uti Nwachukwu one of the housemate has turned out to be a popularTV presenter of the famous “Jara” program aired on Africa Magic. This gentleman is not slowing down as he is also a model as well as an actor. The second season of Big Brother Nigeria Naija premiered 11 years after the first season of which Efe Ejeba emerged winner ofthe show in 2017. Efe won Nigerians over with his unassuming self and emerged the winner of the reality show. He won the cash prize of Twenty Five Million Naira and a brand new KIA Sorento car. During his stay in the house, Efe was popular for the slang “Based on Logistics” He was also romantically interested in Marvis.

Efe is currently focused on reinventing rap and has released works such as ‘Warri’ ft Olamide, ‘Based on Logistics’ and ‘I Love You’. Tokunbo Idowu popularly called T- Boss is arguably the most controversial Big Brother Naija housemate shockingly emerged the second runner-up of the second season; some of her most controversial moments include when she failed to recite the national Anthem and when she said she could finish the 25 million naira prize money in one week.

T-Boss has hosted several shows including AFRIMA 2017 and Funny Bone Untamed. She has also modeled for several brands, and made her acting debut in the upcoming movie, “Kada River.”
A bundle of talent, Bisola emerged the 1st runner up on Big Brother Naija, Season 2. Bisola wasn’t new to reality TV competitions as she had contested in the 2008 edition of Project Fame West Africa.
She was one of the most popular housemates, and while she was known for her creativity, she was often in the news for her romantic relationship with a secretly married Thin Tall Tony (TTT).

Bisola currently enjoys a successful acting career. Since she left the Big Brother Naija house, she has featured in movies and TV shows such as “Glimpse,” “Ovy’s Voice,” “Picture Perfect,” “Skinny Girl in Transit season 4,” and “Life of A Nigerian couple” season 2.” Also, in August 2017, Aiyeola, who is also a singer, signed to the Pan¬African record label, Temple Music. In September, Bisola attended the 72nd United Nations General Assembly which held in New York as a ONE Ambassador.

Miracle Igbokwe
Miracle Igbokwe from Imo state emerged winner of the third season in 2018. Miracle emerged as the winner to the joy of his fans and he is currently working hard in his stride of becoming a certified pilot as that has been his trademark.

Cynthia Nwadiora
Cynthia Nwadiora popularly known as Cee-C was one of the most controversial Housemates of the 2018 edition. Today however, she has confounded her critics to become one ofthe most successful fashion model in Nigeria.
