2019 was a big year for Funke Akindele who is best known for creating Jenifa’s Diary. On the 5th of August 2019, she announced her debut as a director in the acting industry. The exciting news was released via an Instagram post. She is the director of the movie, Your Excellency, a product of EbonyLife Films. Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde (popularly known as Funke Akindele) is a Nigerian actress and producer. Funke starred in the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She plays the lead character in the show Jenifa’s Diary, for which she was named Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic viewers Choice Awards. Funkee has over 100 movies to her credit as actress, writer, and producer.

Mrs. Akindele never kept her age and date of birth a secret, which is why everyone which that the actress was born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. Funke is the second of three children (two girls and one boy). Akindele’s mother is a Medical Doctor while her father is a retired School Principal. Funke obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. She got a Law degree from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba.

Akindele came into limelight after starring in popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-sponsored sitcom I “Need to Know”, which ran from 1998 to 2002. However, Funke decided to go another route, and actually has not one, but two degrees: one in Mass Communications, and the other in Law. She decided to pursue her acting dreams instead of pursuing a corporate career.

Funke Akindele has been steadily working for nearly a decade, but her first truly successful role was in the 2009 movie “Jenifa”, which was such a hit with the audience that Funke not only landed a lead role in a spin¬off series but also got her nickname – she is often affectionately called Jenifa by her fans.

Funke Akindele is much more than an accomplished Nigerian actress. She has also produced numerous movies and TV shows, including the one based on her Jenifa character. In addition to that, Funke is also a talented screenwriter. She visited the house mate in the BBNaija house last season (pepper dem). Overall, Funke Akindele has won dozens of prestigious awards for her achievements in acting, writing, and producing. On May 26, 2012, Akindele married Adeola Kehinde Oloyede, the couple divorced in July 2013. Akindele married Nigerian rapper Abdul Rasheed Bello, known as JJC Skillz, in London in May 2016. Through JJC, she has several step-children with JJC Skillz, she gave birth to twin boys in December 2018.
