Genevieve Nnaji Unveiled

Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, turned just 40 a few weeks ago but her popularity belies her age in many
ways. Although she is easily is one of the most female talented entertainers to come out of the African continent, the down- to – earth diva has managed to stay out of controversy despite being a single mom. He avid fans are eternally grateful that she hasn’t yet hugged the limelight for the wrong reasons.

Sometimes it could be easy to use her baby face to pass her off as a virgin teenager but Genevieve’s combination of beauty and brain has helped her to remain adored by film personalities and movie-goers across the globe.

Genevieve was born on the 3rd of May 3, 1979, in Eastern Nigeria, precisely in Mbaise, Imo State, to an engineer father and a mother who is a teacher. She was raised in the bustling commercial city of Lagos and attended Methodist Girls College Yaba. Her love for acting and the klieg lights manifested very early. Even while in primary school and during her secondary school days, the young Genevieve featured in the then popular television soap opera known as Ripples.

Much earlier as early as age 8, she had started acting as a hobby and it was no surprise to see her blossom into an adorable actress by the time she turned 19 and starred in the movie “Most Wanted”. As if that was not enough, mother luck smiled exceedingly on her when beyond her widest dream she won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005. By 2011, her movie exploits and immense contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s movie industry better known as Nollywood had earned her Nigeria’s National honour of MFR (Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria).

In the mist of her rising career, Genevieve Nnaji gave birth to a daughter named Theodora Chimebuka. She was a mere 17 old then, an undaunted Genevieve trudged on and never looked back. Dora, who is now 22 years old appears to be following on her mother’s entrepreneurial steps. She owns the NAJ makeup studio, located in Yaba, Lagos and is incidentally married to Prince Osi Chigozie Ikediwa. Although Genevieve Nnaji appears to be in line to become a grandmother soon, she has raised the bar for women in the movie industry with sheer hard work. She is easily currently one of top ten richest Nollywood actresses in Nigeria and perhaps Africa. She is also a model, singer and brand ambassador. According to the networthportal.com, her net worth in dollars is $7.5 million. She owns a mansion worth $4 million in Accra, Ghana and she is reported to also own mansions in Lekki, Ikoyi and Abuja.

Hollywood has also had a taste of Genevieve. In 2009, she featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show in an episode tagged “the Most Famous People in the World” following a scintillating career in the movie industry. Geny as fondly called by her fans, is a brand Ambassador to many companies, and a chain of business and commercial investments. She has starred in the award winning film, Ije, alongside Omotola Jalade in 2010 and also in another award winning movie titled “Dr. Bello” with some Americans and America-based Nigerians. She is one of the highest paid acts in Nollywood as she was referred to as the Julia Roberts of Africa by Oprah Winfrey.

Aside acting, Genevieve sings and directs and produces movies. She recently directed her ttl,385,100,000 ($3.8 million) debut movie, “Lion Heart” that was acquired by American film sharing site, Netflix. The movie had its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

She has received numerous awards and nominations for her work, including the Best Actress of the year award at the 2001 City People Awards. She released her debut music album one Logologo Line in 2004 under the EKB Records label. She has also won the overall best movie in West Africa with her movie Road to Yesterday at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards. Nollywood screen diva, Genevieve Nnaji, believes she is a woman who has rights to choices and can do whatever she feels like. She owns a clothing line, “St. Genevieve”, and donates the company’s proceeds to charity.
